From My Studio in Cornwall: A Glimpse into the Jewellery-Making Process

The jewellery I create for Sati is born of intention and the process itself feels like a meditation. I first learnt the art of jewellery-making ten years ago, when I met a designer in New York while living there. Though I had originally set out to pursue a career in fashion, life gently steered me towards something different: using my hands to create. With a background in textiles, the shift into working with a harder, more enduring material felt like a natural progression and the excitement I felt learning this new art form confirmed to me that I was on the right path.

Today, I work from a small jewellery shed on the farm where I live in Cornwall. This quiet rural space feels like the perfect place to create. Here, I feel deeply connected to myself and to the slow rhythms of nature. Often the only interruptions are the farm chickens wandering in to say hello. Sometimes I listen to music or a podcast but more often I welcome the stillness as I work, letting the silence and presence infuse each piece.

My jewellery-making process is slow, intentional and all about the detail. I love nothing more than sitting at my workbench with a cup of tea and getting everything on my desk in order before I begin making. I often take a moment to sit quietly, breathe and set an intention for the piece I’m about to create. I like to imagine the person who will wear it and the journey it will travel on from my hands to theirs. I often begin working in the stillness of early morning, when the light is soft and the world is hushed. The seasons guide me too - the warmth of summer or the stillness of winter subtly find their way into the textures and shapes I create.

The making itself unfolds in different ways. Some pieces are formed through lost wax casting, a process that always feels magical to me, offering endless possibilities for organic textures. Others emerge through hand-texturing with hammers or by using fire to soften and transform the metal. Each method has its own rhythm and each piece carries the imprint of that slow, mindful process. My work centres on sterling silver and solid gold (always 100% recycled and responsibly sourced - and never plated). To me these timeless metals embody strength, resilience and an innate connection to the earth.

The final stage of wrapping and packaging is just as meaningful as the making itself. I love preparing each piece with care, knowing it will soon be received with joy, whether as a gift to yourself or to someone you love. It feels like sharing a little moment of celebration and connection and this is everything to me.

My hope is that when you wear a Sati piece, you feel the calm presence in which it was created; that it serves as a gentle reminder of the beauty of slowing down and living with intention. Each creation is designed as a talisman, a quiet and meaningful companion to support you on your path. You can shop the collection here.
