Coming Home to Creativity

Coming Home to Creativity

As I look ahead to 2026, one of my intentions is to reconnect more deeply with my own creative energy - to use my hands again, and to give myself permission to play, explore and be curious, creating without the need for a particular outcome.

When I first started Sati, creativity poured out of me in a rush. Learning block printing and natural dyeing in India and discovering how to bring my meditation cushions to life was exhilarating. Travelling in tuk tuks along dusty roads to source fabrics, buttons and labels made me feel so alive and the adventure itself filled me with as much vitality as the designing itself. Days spent in the print room playing with colour, texture and print felt like heaven and time seemed to dissolve as I lost myself completely in the process.

Yet I’ve noticed how easily this creative aliveness can fade when we’re no longer on some far-flung adventure, carried along by warm breezes and novelty. So the question comes: how do we reconnect with this energy without needing to travel so far from home?

From a spiritual perspective, honouring creativity is really about honouring what is alive within us. When we ignore that call for too long, the inner light can begin to dim - something I’ve noticed in myself time and time again. When the busyness of life takes over, or when I stop giving myself permission to play, I no longer feel quite like myself.

But when we do listen, even in small, quiet ways, something begins to soften and open. For me, this listening often comes through stillness, found in meditation, or paradoxically through movement. When I dance with presence and abandon, I access an embodied voice that speaks with a deep, intuitive wisdom - not just through my body, but through my mind and heart too.

Creativity, I’ve come to realise, is like a gentle current moving through us, waiting to be expressed. When we give form to this intuitive energy, we naturally step out of our heads and into a more intimate relationship with the present moment. In this way, creativity becomes a practice - much like meditation.

And the beautiful thing is, creativity doesn’t have to look like art in the traditional sense. Perhaps you express it through cooking, gardening, writing or caring for others with heart. Anything that brings something constructive into the world - anything that channels creative energy in service of life - is worthy of nurturing and celebration.

That said, sometimes we need a spark to reignite the engine; a little momentum after a period of dormancy. That’s why this February, I’ll be returning to Jaipur to continue my explorations in the print studio. I have so many ideas bubbling: new prints, new products, new ways of giving form to what wants to be expressed. I’m deeply excited to reconnect with the art of making and to spend time once again with my wonderful team of suppliers - relationships that have grown organically and heart-led since my first visit in 2020.

As we enter this new year, I invite you to reflect:
How might you intentionally carve out space for creativity in 2026?
How might you listen more closely to what wants to move through you?
And what would it feel like to give yourself permission to play again?
