I don’t know who needs to hear this today, but… you’re probably doing better than you think you are.
It’s so easy to miss that, isn’t it? You spend most of your time thinking about what’s next or what you haven’t done yet. Maybe getting caught up in thoughts of “shoulds” or “coulds” but your energy (and time) doesn’t always seem to quite allow for all of it - or even some of it on certain days 🙃
And because of that, you don’t really notice what you have managed to get through, which is often more than you give yourself credit for.
For me, even on decent days, there’s sometimes this low-level feeling of “I should be doing more” or “I’m behind somehow”. It’s strange, isn’t it - behind what, exactly? It’s not always clear. There’s just this vague pressure or expectation to be further along than you are and it can make normal life feel like it’s not quite enough, or like you should be striving for more, better or something else entirely.
Of course, there’s nothing wrong with wanting to grow or change things in your life but I’ve noticed it can sometimes tip into this idea that you’re not okay as you are, right now. And that’s where things get heavy because you start treating yourself like a project instead of a sweet, fallible human being.
Sometimes you just need to come back to yourself in small ways - intentionally creating pauses in the day where you actually land in the moment you’re in and feel your feet on the ground.
For me, these moments might look like:
- noticing my shoulders are tense and letting them drop
- taking a breath without trying to make it “useful”
- realising I’m actually okay in this exact second and putting down that future fear for a nanosecond
Because you don’t have to earn rest or prove you’re worthy of being alive. You’re allowed to just be a person getting through things, one day at a time.
Reflecting on this is what inspired me to create the Little Reminders deck — a set of affirmation cards for anxiety and overthinking, designed to help you find your anchor in moments when your mind feels a little loud or overwhelmed.
They’re not about fixing anything, just gentle reminders that you are okay and that you already have what you need within you to move forwards with more ease and clarity.
