Introducing our juicy new additions – the pomegranate-dyed Hiranya cushions!
It feels good to drop some zing into the collection, knowing the source of this magnificent hue is 100% natural. It still amazes us that nature can produce such a deep, vibrant yellow – and all from the rind of pomegranates (thankfully this is a plentiful waste product in India !)
I remember the first time we saw this colour on a sample in Avinash and Kriti’s workshop in Bagru. It blew us away! It was so satisfying seeing the fabric being raised out of the bucket of dye after stewing amongst the deep yellow soup of pomegranate rind – and even more satisfying to wash the dried mud print off to reveal the ‘resist’ stripes.
These stripes were the first wooden blocks Ben carved during his intensive training with mentor and now friend, Karmveer, upon arrival in Jaipur. He was advised to start with straight lines (‘keep it simple’ as they say) but he soon realised that straight lines are actually deceivingly hard to master (one wrong ‘chip’ and you’re done!) but boy did good and created some near-perfect printing blocks for us to use. The only wobbles come from the printing process itself but we love the fact that every cushion has its own unique marks - this is exactly why we block print!
The Hiranya print features on our rectangle and round cushion shapes and works well paired with the Natural Floor Cushion or the Graphite Floor Cushion. Enjoy choosing!
